Aside from the drama the Lyon family provides viewers with every episode, they also provide us with array of good music compliments of super-producer Timbaland. Well it’s just been announced that Timbaland wont be returning for the upcoming season. Singer and songwriter Ne-Yo also lent his talents to some of the shows music selection.
“We’re happy to work with Timbaland during the first two seasons, but we wanted to take a different approach for season 3.” said Shawn Holiday, senior VP of A&R for Columbia Records.
In a recent report from Billboard, show executives revealed that Timbaland has been replaced with producer Rodney Jerkins and songwriter Ester Dean. Jerkins has worked with Micheal Jackson, Brandy, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and others. Dean has penned songs for Rihanna, Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige and more. “Rodney is a dynamic, multi-format producer experienced in urban, rhythmic and pop. And Dean excels at writing big songs with catchy hooks.” he added.
The music staff for season three will keep regulars Ne-Yo and J.R. Rotem, but will add Johnta Austin and Makeba Riddick. It will also included appearances from Mariah Carey, French Montana, Biz Markie, and more.
Season three of Empire returns on FOX Wednesday September 21st at 9pm.
