Alicia Keys is gearing up for the release of her sixth studio album titled HERE, which will be available November 4th. While it’s leading single “Common” is holding her fans over for the time being. Keys decided to get personal on her new single “Blended Family (What You Do For Love)” The A$AP Rocky assisted track Swizz Beatz’s song Kasseem Dean Jr from his previous marriage to singer Mashonda.
“I know it started with a little drama,” she sings. “I hate you had to read it in the paper / But everything’s over with me and your mama / Everybody here you know adores ya.”
Back when Alicia and Swizz Beatz began dating Key’s received a lot of flack for being involved with a married man. She was criticized and labeled a “home wrecker” on social media.
A brokenhearted Mashonda addressed the situation with Swizz publicly on VH1’s first season of Love & Hip Hop New York, and in the media by saying
“My concern with [Keys] is no longer the fact that she assisted in destroying a family, but that she has the audacity to make these selfish comments about love and wanting to be with someone, even after knowing their situation,”
In a 2012 interview with Jet Magazine Alicia denied allegations by saying “They were apart for some time before we ever got together. That doesn’t matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down.”
All seems forgiven now that Keys is celebrating Mashonda with this new song. In a instagram post announcing the single Alicia tagged Mashonda in her heartfelt caption.
